I am a Human-Computer Interaction and Health Informatics enthusiast. Qualified and experienced at working as a Research Assistant & Software Engineer. I have been working with several Associated Laboratories of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) since 2015. Researching & Developing (R&D) in areas such as Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User-Centered Design (UCD), Information Visualization (InfoVis) and Health Informatics (HI). Also lecturing on those areas. Prior to IST, I was part of several Entrepreneurship projects, from Agriculture to Advertisement, building systems for both business areas.

Medical Imaging Multimodality Breast Cancer Diagnosis User Interface

Research Assistance Project

The Medical Imaging Multimodality Breast Cancer Diagnosis User Interface (MIMBCD-UI) project deals with the use of a recently proposed technique in literature: Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). These deep networks will incorporate information from several different modes: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) volumes, UltraSound (US) images, MammoGraphic (MG) images (both views CC and MLO) and text. Therefore, the design and development of an User Interface (UI) is necessary, allowing the user (in this case, the medical specialist) to display various types of image (i.e., MG, US and MRI).

Medical Imaging Diagnosis Assistant

Research Assistance Project

The Medical Imaging Diagnosis Assistant (MIDA) project joins contributions from the MIMBCD-UI project. The MIDA project deals with the development and integration of several AI-Assisted techniques across an User Interface (UI). It aims to approach several areas of the Computer Science field. The areas are Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). The main goal of the project is to develop an Assistant to help the automation of the cancer diagnosis regarding the use of Medical Imaging (MI) technologies.

BreastScreening

Research Project

The BreastScreening project joins contributions from both MIMBCD-UI and MIDA projects. The BreastScreening aims at developing of an Assistant for the breast cancer diagnosis. We use several modalities of medical images. The modalities are Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) volumes, UltraSound (US) images and MammoGraphic (MG) images (both views CC and MLO). From here, with the obtained data, we can create an algorithm to consume the data.

Towards Touch-Based Medical Image Diagnosis Annotation

Scientific Paper

Published on ISS'17 conference, a scientific paper that aproaches the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) field of research. Titled as “Towards Touch-Based Medical Image Diagnosis Annotation”, it explores the radiologist's receptivity to the current touch device solutions.

Applying New Paradigms in Human-Computer Interaction to Health Informatics

Opinion Article

Published on Medium.com platform, an opinion article that aproaches two fields of research. The two fields of research are Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Health Informatics (HI). The article, titled as “Applying New Paradigms in Human-Computer Interaction to Health Informatics”, describes the new paradigms of HCI as a discipline on the development of User Interfaces (UIs) regarding HI. Also, the current and future challenges for researchers, and the various trends, stating its innovations and developments.

Entrepreneur

My life as entrepreneur start with launching my own brand called oppr. The primary goal of this organization was to select the best technologies. The oppr organization aims at implementing the best solutions on several issues, as well as bringing together the highest talent across a technological community. By adopting those solutions to solve the problem and presenting a complete, as well as a coherent range of possibilities, our solutions and services are helping to improve performance. The organization positively overcome the challenges inherent in innovating activity. From this project, it makes me improve my managing capabilities by providing me with the problem of organizing and monitoring more than 20 people.

Following the above entrepreneur steps, I pass to the development of an Agriculture system for the Livestock management. The collaborative relation was with a Startup called Agroop, aiming at the development of a novel technological solution for monitoring farms. The Livestock project aims to quantitatively and qualitatively describing each Livestock production in terms of feed and Livestock resources, as well as produced commodities. By providing insights into several metrics, the Livestock system was important for the regions and agro-ecological zones of Portugal.

Finally, a third entrepreneurship project, called SnapJob (formally GigZap), was a part of my entrepreneur path. SnapJob (formally GigZap) is a platform for search and dissemination of punctual, temporary and volunteer jobs, which aggregates advertising from various companies and institutions across a single platform. Working for this project as Partner and Project Manager, the project gave me experience on an overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure.
